Spotlight on Bergen
Fine arts, history and debate, but also music, poetry and film are part of KRANENBURGH’s programme. It is a place for artistic blossoming, with space for old and new, for leading and upcoming talents. For over a hundred years, Bergen has attracted artists, writers, and musicians. KRANENBURGH puts the spotlight on the network of artists in and around Bergen, which by now has extended both nationally and internationally.
At KRANENBURGH the former museum Kranenburgh, museum 'Het Sterkenhuis' , Artist Center Bergen (KCB), the ‘Kunstuitleen’ (Art Loan), the Tourist Information (VVV) and the North Holland Art Collection (NHKC) are brought together. A great joining of forces! Museum 'Het Sterkenhuis' is housed in a 17th century farm-house in the centre of Bergen, and tells the story of the inhabitants of Bergen and its surroundings from prehistoric times onwards.
The historic villa Kranenburgh dates back to the 19th century and was built by the Van Reenen family, founders of the village of Bergen as we know it today. Several artists, including Charley Toorop and Lucebert, have lived in the villa for shorter or longer periods of time.
The new building designed by architect Dirk Jan Postel (2013), is defined by large glass sections – a great way to welcome the surrounding landscape (among which the sculpture garden) into the museum. Refined details and interesting sightlines add to the subtle simplicity and quality of the building.
KRANENBURGH Cultural Estate aims at organising excellent exhibitions, stage performances, debates, lectures and educational activities. Furthermore it promotes the advancement of knowledge and debates on art.
Working with volunteers, KRANENBURGH offers opportunities for variuous (qualified) professionals to cooperate in collection management, communication, security, facility, gardening, shopkeeping and catering.
