Kranenburgh exudes that atmosphere; if you look outside you can see what the artists have painted. The museum tells a story that is based on those pioneer artists, some of whose descendants have been rooted in Bergen for generations. This also makes the museum a place with a human, warm appearance.
The Bergen School
About hundred years ago a group of artists came to Bergen who, in the idyllic tranquility of the village, incorporated the artistic innovations from Amsterdam art world in their work. The paintings, drawings and sculptures of these "Bergen School" artists, with clear influences of Cubism and Expressionism, are largely created in and around Bergen.
